Sokon Bushi Matsumura was born in 1797 in
Yamagawa village in Shuri. He began training with Sakugawa at the age of 14. Later he became the bodyguard of last three Ryukyu
Kings Sho-Ko, Sho-Iku and Sho-Tai. He also trained under Ason and Iwah and Chinese Kong Su Kung also known as Kushanku. Matsumura
later became the top Martial art Master of Okinawa. Bushi was the rank translated as warrior, title given by the Ryukyu Kings
to him for his superior ability in the Martial arts.
He is the founder of Shuri-te style (Shorinryu). He was the creator
of Chinto Kata in the memory of a chinese sailor who was expert in Kempo and trained Matsumura Chinese fistic arts. Master
Matsumura passed away in 1893.
